From painter's studies to student's paintings

In this project, we looked at different paintings of Inger Kaurin. With inspiration from one of her paintings, we "repainted" this in our own way. The first year's students at Stangnes secondary school carried out this project.

Inger Kaurin is a painter living in Harstad. She has her own facebook website with art photos. You may also watch Inger Kaurin's exhibition at Harstad kunstforening with the painting "te på taket".

You may see Inger Kaurins originally paintings at here facebook website. Here you also will find the paintings we used in our project: "Kirke" (Church), "Marios" (Mario's), "Blåtimen" (The blue hour), "Punkthuset", (The City Centre Point, building) and "På kaia" (On the quay).

All the paintings have motives from the mediaeval Trondenes Church or Central Harstad.  As you will see, some of the buildings in Central Harstad have a 'modernisma' look.

We were asked to tell
- why we chose this painting of Inger Kaurin,
- what kind of painting techniques we used, and
- what kind of difficulties that eventually occurred during the painting process.

Viking kites

We are proud to tell that we have been making kites at Stangnes!

The kite project involved all students at the Programme area Art, Craft and Design (1SFA, 2SFA, 3SFA).

We started this project first by doing individual sketches. The theme was the Viking era and its´ décor. Then we assembled in groups, 3-4 students in each group and every student was from different classes.  Afterwards we chose which décor to use.

We used the experience from our visit at Escola Massana.

On a windy day we hope to take the 9 kites out for a flight !

Memories

We have many memories from the exchange and communications the past year. Here are some thoughts from our students:

Question: How did you feel about using English?

-  It was very okay. It was nice to refresh my English. After some time, I became very comfortable speaking English.
- I recognized that my English was not as good as I thought, but after some time I felt I improved my English.
- It was no problem to speak English, but I had to look up a fem words in my dictionary.

Q: What is your opinion of your Catalan friend's English?

- In the beginning, my Catalan friend was working hard speaking English, but she became much better after short time. She told me that she became better because she had to speak English with me all the time.
- We had several Catalan students living together in the same hause in Harstad, and they helped each other in English. When we talked about things, we always used English, but when we had language difficulties, the guest students helped each other. My guest became much better in English during the stay in Harstad and during our time in Barcelona. In Barcelona we lived just the two of us together, then we had to use google translate if we had language problems. I improved my English, but I believe my Catalan friend improved her English more.
